For my 2016 writing project, I’ve decided to write a single line of poetry every day for an entire year. Below, is July’s poem. Enjoy!
Freedom is with me.
It resides within you.
All we lack is the means.
Courage has yet to be found.
Quietly, it hangs in the closet.
Soon, independence day.
A date and all will be different.
Shots heard around the world.
We declare ourselves.
The world will know our names.
We are done apologizing.
We are becoming who we were always meant to be.
Revealed, as brand new.
This couple stands before you.
Stare, if you will.
It makes no difference.
Boldly, we plow forward.
Wrapped in liberty,
Our love is a clarion call.
Perhaps, a force to be reckoned.
Perhaps, a sense of normalcy.
Just another couple.
We scream like a firework.
Don't label us with your sins.
Don't label us at all.
Acceptance please, tolerance if you must.
Leave your malice at the door.
Vindication with every vow.
Life is so different now.
A genuine smile crawls.
It freely hangs on my face.
Be good to each other,
-Nathan
