Are you sitting down? Good. As a kid, I never read "The Giver." I know. I should have, but I found myself enthralled with some girl and a house on a prairie. So, what I knew about the book leading into this movie was next to nothing. Which is the way I like it. Nothing, no movie will ever be as great as any book you read. Nothing is as fantastic as your imagination, but the director, cast and production crew did a fine job. They painted utopia. They painted a world devoid of emotion and intellectual curiosity. On the surface, this ideal seems to work until the need to know and the power of knowledge are introduced. Some may try to hold this movie up as a mirror to our world. I don't fault them for the attempt, but to me it was a fun ride. Sometimes, that's all I need a movie to be.
Thanks for entering my world,
-Nathan
