At the center of every album is a musical thesis. “High Violet” moves with a steady pulse, as if mimicking blood through your heart. Which is a fitting description, because these songs feel like the things weighing on my mind. Each song is a representation of what I am thinking and wish I could convey properly to the ones I love. Each word seems intentional, as if carefully selected in an effort to best make the most meaningful point in a conversation. The National is often dismissed for their depressive lyrics and delivery, but I have fallen in love with this band for precisely that reason. This album is something we can relate to our own thinking. We can feel its meaning in our hearts, on our minds, and in those conversations we wish we were brave enough to have.
Be good to each other,
