When I go, from the room, our conversation or this world, judge me by my compassion. Not by my looks or my wealth, not by my sexuality or my God, but my compassion only. Here, the output is within my control. I can talk about things needing to be done, but I ask you to hold me accountable. Ensure I am following through on what I preach. When you see hypocrisy, profess it. When you see me fail, tell me. When I lose focus and begin to turn inward, offer course correction.
See, my works should be my words. I believe in action. The ability to solve the world's greatest challenges is within our reach. I refuse to speak only of things needing to be done. I desire the front line. I also know I am prone to failure and succumb to moments of illusion. I will never be the men and women I admire most. Knowing this, I will push forward showing compassion everywhere I go.
My compassion is the mark I hope to leave on my little piece of the world. It isn't much. It won't make me famous. It won't win a Nobel Peace Prize. It won't cure poverty or free slaves. It is all I got to give and it is the very best of me.
I believe it to be the very best of who we are as human beings. We are giants when we care for the smallest among us. When we aren't consumed with the trivial or mundane. When we aren't focused on perpetuating evil, but compassion. In these moments, I am happiest to call myself a member of the human race. So, judge me by my compassion when I go. It is an honest confession to let you know I will be doing the same.
Thanks for entering my world,
-Nathan
