A movie like “Dope” isn’t a film I usually see, but it may be the sleeper hit of the summer. Full of modern day themes like feeling out of place, “blackness,” single parents, college, an appreciation for the past and much more, this film often punches above its weight limit. Amazingly so, those punches land in both hysterical and heartwarming fashion. Our heroes keep us guessing at every turn as they escape corners and odds that are never in their favor. As they do, we get a glimpse at the high school versions of ourselves. As we stare through the looking glass, we get a sense of the odds we overcame to get where we are today. This movie was a perfect reflection. While not my story, I am glad I tried something different for a Sunday movie.
Thanks for entering my world,
