At the center of every album is a musical thesis. “The Waterfall” by My Morning Jacket flows with the bipolar activity of the natural feature for which the album is named. The track list is a mixture of calm waters and violent falls all heading toward pools and rivers focused on time and memories. If we think of our lives as rivers, then we see ourselves in this flow and we instantly relate to the songs performed here. From the safety of the shores, we recognize a fundamental belief; life is filled with valleys and peaks. Each song is about our power to rise above and move on beyond the cascade of life. A lot of energy is focused on the waterfall, but rarely is any attention given to the drop and life after that. My Morning Jacket is begging us to focus on what’s next. After listening to this album, it is hard not to.
Be good to each other,
-Nathan
