Escaped the Rain/Made Friends with the Heat
Gray clouds replaced by endless sun.
Douglas Firs for Palm Trees.
Rocky beaches for sand between my toes.
One 405 for another.
Acquaintances for friends.
Leaving Seattle was a revolutionary act.
The journey to Los Angeles was meant to reshuffle the deck.
Driving south, I hoped to quiet a longing in the pit of my stomach.
Not trading in, but trading up.
In the waning days before my exodus, my escape would find itself replaced by a return.
Those moments would find the longing answered.
A new fear would take hold.
Leaving a place I had grown to love, my life would be thrown into chaos.
Happiness replaced by dread.
Belonging for longing.
Purpose for searching.
One 405 for a city changed forever.
My needs for the love of my life.
Be good to each other,
Nathan
