Black Mirror, Season 1 - Netflix 

I know. I know. I am late for the party. In a world of endless content, most of you have already visited the pool that is Black Mirror, enjoyed it fully, and swam elsewhere. Meanwhile, I stand here alone just beginning to dip my toes in the murky and philosophical moral quandary that is this show. A few episodes in, I can report I am fully committed and ready to explore more.  

Killing Eve, Season 2 – Hulu 

Season 2 of Killing Eve isn’t landing for me in the same way as the first season, but I will always be a sucker for a good espionage story and this one continues to steal my attention. As I draw nearer to the beginning of the next season, I am beyond curious to discover where Eve and Villanelle go from here.  

Last Week Tonight, Season 8 - HBO 

John Oliver has moved me to action. Some of the stories his team chose to cover in Season 8 forced my hand and led to emails and calls to my state and federal representatives. After eight years, I still find myself enthralled by the format of this show. I love the deep dives and John’s sophomoric, yet refined sense of humor. In a democracy as fractured as ours, it feels great to retreat to a corner where I am not alone.  

Mr. Robot, Season 3 – Amazon  

I’ll admit it. I have picked up and walked away from Season 3 of Mr. Robot a couple of times. It just doesn’t feel as revolutionary as previous seasons. Right now, sheer curiosity about Elliot’s future, as well as the future of E Corp are the only things keeping me here.  

The Goldbergs, Season 2 – Hulu  

I am midway through two seasons of The Goldbergs. It didn’t take me long to figure out the formula of this show. The mother smothers, dad is often forced into action, the kids rebel, and grandpa plays both sides. At times, this formula is a little exhausting, yet I keep streaming. Why? Because as a kid born in 1983, this thing is filled to the brim with nostalgia, and I find myself overdosing on it.  

Adam Ruins Everything, Season 2 – HBO 

Don’t judge me. I love to learn, and I am not afraid to have my preconceived notions challenged. With every episode of Adam Ruins Everything, Adam Conover manages to do exactly that and so much more.  

Family Guy, Season 4 – Hulu 

Family Guy is my guilty pleasure. It is a dark place where I can retreat and laugh at the absurdities of this world. Sure, the endless analogies that lead to cut-away scenes can get a little tiring, but they almost always make me laugh. In a world where everyone seems so serious, this show offers me a great escape.  

How to Get Away with Murder, Season 1 – Hulu 

How to Get Away with Murder exhausts me. The students annoy me. Annalise Keating’s superhuman ability to worm her way out of any situation frustrates me tremendously. The show’s timeline built on flashbacks and flashforwards, make me want to scream in my living room. Yet, I cannot turn away from it. This show feels like watching a plane crash. I know I should look away, but I can’t help myself.  

Vice News Tonight, Season 7 – HBO 

I am done with the evening news and 24-hour talking heads where opinion is masked as news. I flatly reject the entire premise with one exception. As I begin a new year, I find myself welcoming Vice New Tonight to the fold with the hopes of gaining some greater context about the world around me.
