Table for One
Engulfed in a chrome canyon,
I find myself overwhelmed by a city only needing an abbreviation.
This city is bombastic, dizzying, and mine.
For the moment…
The possibilities have me seeking refuge, a place to scheme.
Sheepishly, I request a table for one.
The lunch crowd has marked their territory.
Proudly, I float past, for the moment.
Wearing false confidence, I order from an overpriced menu.
I feel alone in a brand new city.
Five million strong and I feel alone.
This will only be true for a moment.
Looking at tables filled with friends, couples, and associates,
I realize I created this life for myself.
Craving this feeling, I hold on tight.
My grasp will be loosened in a moment.
With a meal as fuel, I do battle with the sidewalk.
The masses must return to their responsibilities.
Dreams are to be realized for me.
I only have this moment.
Be good to each other,
Nathan
