It has been a long time since I cried in a movie theater. It has been hundreds and hundreds of movies since I was last confronted with my own humanity. Never have I felt so mediocre, safe, troubled, and scared in my life. For all the movies I see, it is on a rare occasion when I see a movie so true, yet so violent. "Hacksaw Ridge" did all of these things for me and more. It reaffirmed my pacifist nature. It made me shudder in the face of war. It breathed new respect into my heart for those who have served. It did this with typical Mel Gibson style. It demands to be seen and respected by sheer violence and storytelling. Of course, you will draw your own conclusions and feel things different from me, but you will find it nearly impossible to not be moved by this movie.
