A Reader: "In Me Own Words" by Graham Roumieu
Matt Patt was my roommate for eight years in and out of college. Now, I am lucky to call him my best friend in the world, but once upon a time when we lived together the conversation of books arose. I have been an avid reader since the third grade and was falling even more in love with it after graduating college. Matt on the other hand couldn't stand the thought of sitting still with a book and getting lost in the story. After our conversation, Matt decided he was going to try and fall into reading more regularly.
Flash forward several weeks, I caught Matt with "I Not Dead." It is an illustrated book about Bigfoot numbering about 30 pages. At first, I wanted to mock Matt for not challenging himself. Then, I stepped back and thought, at least he's trying. After taking entirely too long to read a 30 page book, he let me borrow it. In about 20 minutes, I finished the book and was in love with the crudeness, imagination, and artwork. I decided to no longer think bad thoughts about Matt and seek out other books written by Graham Roumieu. This journey led me to "In Me Own Words;" an autobiography of sorts. Once again, I wasn't disappointed. Everything I loved about the first book was there and more. After finishing this second book, I search out more of Graham's books everywhere I go. So, thanks Matt, but I should say whenever you come across this post, I hope you have graduated to subjects a bit more challenging than the star of Jack Links Jerky commercials.
Be good to each other,
-Nathan
