Cinephile No. 608 "The Magnificent Seven"

When I was a kid, I would spend Saturday mornings watching cartoons with my brothers and Sundays watching Westerns with my dad. We watched "Gunsmoke," "Bonanza," and "Rawhide." While Westerns have all, but faded from our televisions, I do possess a weak spot in my cinema loving heart for those that make it to the big screen. "The Magnificent Seven" is quite formulaic. It is good versus evil in an effort to save a small town and claim revenge. What it lacks in originality (this is another remake), it totally recovers in entertainment value. Denzel is Denzel and Chris Pratt continues to show his ability to add humor to any script. For those things both expected and unexpected, I recommend seeing this movie. As a bonus, if you can get your dad to go and not fall asleep halfway through the movie, you should consider that a win.

Be good to each other,
