Cinephile No. 511 "Name Me"
If all Russian films are like "Name Me," then I will avoid Russian films for a while. Focused on a friend, daughter and her estranged father, the film takes us on a wild ride. For most of the film, the friend pretends to be the daughter of the father all because the daughter is too afraid to confront her father. Confused yet? As was I. I didn't meet my biological father until later in my life. I could never imagine being too afraid to introduce myself or to get to know him. With this experience in mind, it was hard for me to relate to the characters and the challenges they were trying to overcome. At the end of the day, most movies need a character you can root for as they make their way through the plot. This one failed to connect on so many different levels.
Thanks for entering my world,
