I've never seen a more sincere, funny or honest look at cancer than "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl." There is something beyond evil about childhood cancer. The writer of this story could have gone with a film meant to make us sob for a couple of hours. We've been there. We've seen that movie. Instead, we were treated to high school students trying to make sense of life in the face of death, pain, hope and optimism. They are faced with adult problems and, as young adults often do, they teach us something. They teach us to be true to ourselves. They teach us to find the humor in the darkest of battles. They teach us to be honest about the pain we are facing. I don't know a single adult who couldn't benefit from the lesson.
