Musical Thesis: John Mayer "Born and Raised"
At the center of every album is a musical thesis. After unfavorable portrayals in the media, some self created and others thrust upon him, "Born and Raised" is about rebirth and starting over. Hollywood and fame are like drugs. The attention can be consuming, but getting away from it all is easy. You must be willing to make a change though. The changes in John Mayer's life are evident in this album. The music is stripped down and a return to the basics. This album is also a reintroduction. Leaving the limelight, has Mr. Mayer focused on the things that really matter and it has forced him to center himself on his art. In that process, it appears to me he found a version of himself he liked; a version he hopes to show the world through his art. Finally, this album is about redemption. In his best effort, John asks for forgiveness. I think and hope he knows that no one is completely innocent. Most of us are complicit in our faults, but there is a path to a better life. You just have to be willing to make some changes.
Thanks for entering my world,
