Cinephile No. 465 "Interstellar"
You'll need a Ph.D. in Quantum Physics to understand the plot to "Interstellar." This is disappointing because I had high hopes for this Christopher Nolan film. Nolan, who has been nothing but a superb director, aimed for the moon and beyond with this film. With our solar system as his backdrop, he spins an exceptional tale and a believable one on why we should leave the planet earth. Where he leaves most of us behind is the science behind the plot. I don't know if that is his fault or our own, but for most of the film, I found myself struggling to keep up, questioning the theory of relativity, or trying to figure out time travel. As I struggled with these big concepts, something much more important was lost; my ability to enjoy the adventure. I will always applaud Nolan for trying to challenge his audience, but with this one, he pushed too far, too fast.
Thanks for entering my world,
