Once Upon A Future
We are often told we can be and do anything we set our minds to. Of course, there is a sliver of truth to that idea. There are also realities and obstacles standing in our way.
As hard as I try to live in the now, it is a challenge not to focus on the future or dwell on the past. If faced with the opportunity to see what the future holds, I often contemplate about seizing that moment.
Curiosity is a powerful thing. It is one of our evolutionary weapons. I can't help, but wonder who will I settle down with... where will I live... will I have kids... will I travel... Most importantly for me, what kind of work will I do...
Since October, I've been actively applying for jobs, attending networking events, sending out introduction letters and reaching out to professionals in my circle of influence. All in an effort to take a step closer to my dream job. The process has been frustrating, infuriating and disheartening. I am longing for the crystal ball. I just want to know how it ends and where I will end up.
There is no crystal ball. I am stuck in one of those character defining moments. For someone used to getting noticed and his way, this is an important lesson to learn.
So, I don't know what the future holds. I don't know who forever will be with. I don't know where home is. I don't know about kids. I can't know the travel itinerary. I don't know who will finally call upon me to do impactful work. I know this though, I am ready.
Thanks for entering my world,
-Nathan
